Maintaining a mobile lifestyle can help you live independently and age successfully, so it's important to plan for your future transportation security as well as for your medical and financial security.

Many older Americans who are limiting their driving often depend on others to drive them to errands and appointments. Finding other means to get around can become a real challenge. However, there are a number of options available, including public transportation.

Still, by 2030 when 70 million people will be 65 and older, there will be a need to increase and enhance transportation options. Organizations such as APTA and AARP are working to increase mobility choices to help older Americans remain independent as they age.

While there are many communities around the country offering innovative programs to help older adults maintain mobile lifestyles, some areas still do not have adequate transportation. Let your local officials know your concern for the need to increase.
