"I commend the Senate Leadership for advancing strong
and balanced surface transportation reauthorization legislation that increases
and guarantees funding for public transportation," said William W.
Millar, president of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA),
in participating with the Americans for Transportation Mobility (ATM)
at a Senate event on TEA 21 reauthorization.
"Public transportation is a proven investment that
creates thousands of jobs," he said. "It is an investment that
generates $6 or more in economic activity for every dollar invested."
"Americans have spoken," said Millar. "A
poll sponsored by APTA found that 81 percent of Americans support increased
investment in public transportation, saying it would strengthen the economy,
create jobs, and reduce traffic congestion and air pollution."
